Individu yang dijangkiti Omicron, secara purata, mempunyai kadar kesembuhan lebih cepat dan risiko kematian lebih rendah, menurut kajian Lembaga Pengarah Perkhidmatan Kesihatan Portugis (DGS) dan Institut Kesihatan Nasional Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA).

Faktor risiko menurut kajian itu adalah benar “tanpa mengira umur, jantina dan status vaksinasi pesakit”, dan juga tidak dipengaruhi sama ada individu berkenaan sebelum ini pernah dijangkiti COVID-19 atau tidak.

Penyelidikan itu dijalankan ke atas mereka yang tinggal di Portugal pada Disember 2021.

Bagaimanapun, pengkaji memberi amaran bahawa Omicron mempunyai keupayaan yang lebih besar menentang vaksinasi, dan menjadikannya sangat mudah merebak dan ini menjelaskan angka kes jangkitan yang tinggi.

Portugal telah mencatatkan lebih 47,199 kes baharu COVID-19 dan 50 lagi korban dalam tempoh 24 jam lepas, serta mengorbankan nyawa 20,127 orang sejak tercetusnya wabak itu.
